Judi Checo

Judi is a yoga and meditation teacher, who recently moved from her native NYC to the East Bay. Her classes weave the teachings of the yoga wisdom traditions with asana themes and movements that are explored through an eclectic mix of form (alignment) and flow (vinyasa). She aims to facilitate with care, compassion, and healthy doses of humor and inspiration.

Judi is also a trained holistic doula and yoga teacher who guides prenatal yoga classes with warmth, encouragement and humor.   She has reverence for the transformational experience that is pregnancy and motherhood and is honored to witness and support expecting mothers during this special time in their lives.  She completed her extensive prenatal  yoga training in NYC at Lila Yoga and Wellness Center with Mia Borgata and with the holistic midwife and ob-gyn, Dr. Eden Fromberg. She completed her Holistic Doula training under the tutelage of the amazing elder, Whapio Diane Bartlett of The Matrona. Judi has taught yoga to folx of all ages and backgrounds from teens to seniors, for over 10 years both privately and publicly, in various studios throughout NYC as well as non-profit organizations, and community centers.

A pioneer in the "Yoga en Espanol" movement in NYC, she taught bilingual yoga and meditation at the Soulfest Yoga Festival in 2017 and in 2022. She was also featured in Yoga Journal in their 2024 article To Make Yoga Truly Accessible, We Need to Teach It In Every Language. She has over 500 hours of yoga teacher training in a variety of asana styles including vinyasa-Ashtanga, anusara, restorative, and pre/post-natal yoga, and also mentored with Applied Psychology for Yogi’s where she learned about somatics and the connection between yoga and psychology. She is also a reiki practitioner, holistic doula, writer, counselor and has an MA in in East/West Psychology from the California Institute of Integral Studies (CIIS) with a special certification in Spiritual Counseling. She is currently working towards her PhD. Judi believes that yoga is a technology for personal and collective healing, growth and evolution of consciousness and bows with profound gratitude to all the teachers, too many to name, who have shared their wisdom, offered their encouragement and opened the gateway to walk this path of teaching and service.
